"... a tone of triumphalism..."

Nach dem Terroranschlag im kaschmirischen Pulwama hat sich jetzt der pakistanische Ministerpräsident Imran Khan zu Wort gemeldet. Der unverzichtbare M.K. Badhrakumar hat die Stellungnahme aus indischer Sicht analysiert:

There was a tone of triumphalism throughout in his remarks — that it is check-and-checkmate for India in J&K. 
Without doubt, the victory in sight in Afghanistan gives Pakistan a free hand now to turn to the Kashmir Valley. Significantly, Imran Khan twice brought in the analogy of Afghanistan. He hinted at the defeat staring the US in the face in the 17-year old Afghan war (...).
Of course, Imran Khan didn’t say what brought about the military stalemate for the Americans and NATO in Afghanistan — namely, Pakistan’s sustained backing for the Taliban insurgency. (...)
Simply put, Imran Khan has just stopped short of threatening that Pakistan will fuel the insurgency until fatigue sets in for the Indian side, which will then be compelled to come to the negotiating table to sue for peace and an honourable retreat by the Indian Army.

Und tatsächlich hat Islamabad das Kunststück vollbracht, sowohl für die USA als auch für die arabisch-islamischen Monarchien und für China zum unverzichtbaren Partner geworden zu sein. Delhi wird es nicht leicht haben, Unterstützung für seine Sicht der Dinge zu mobilisieren. Vielleicht bleibt für Indien in der Region vorerst nur Iran als Partner, der auch unter pakistanisch gesponsertem Terror zu leiden hat.

Der Vollständigkeit halber soll hier aber auch angefügt werden, dass Delhi in Kaschmir vor einem Scherbenhaufen steht, den die Regierung selbst zu verantworten hat. Die Vereinten Nationen fordern mittlerweile eine internationale Untersuchung der Menschenrechtsverletzungen in Kaschmir.
