Brexit in der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit

Britischen NRO, die mit Entwicklungszusammenarbeit und oder humanitärer Hilfe befasst sind, werden künftig jährlich mindestens 145 Millionen Euro EU-Mittel fehlen. Das hat IRIN recherchiert.

Demnach muss allein das Internationale Rote Kreuz in Großbritannien mit Einbußen von fast 30,6 Mio. Euro und Oxfam mit etwa 23,3 Mio. Euro weniger rechnen. Auch die auf dem Festland wenig bekannte IMC International und Save the Children dürfte es hart treffen.

Und dabei handelt es sich nur um Gelder, die über ECHO, das humanitäre Büro der Union nach Großbritannien fließen. IRIN meint dazu weiter:

The EU’s overall international development budget is larger than the emergency aid spending of ECHO. Some of these funds also flow to British non-profits and contractors. According to UK NGO consortium BOND, its 400 members have, on average, 39 percent of their income from governments, and of that governmental income, 12 percent is from the EU.

Whether or not we can continue to access EU funding (currently 10% of Oxfam GB’s income) depends on the nature of the Brexit deal – eg whether the UK remains a member of the European Economic Area, and/or strikes a bilateral deal like Switzerland. That will take several years (...).
